"Cristiano was Real Madrid's cheapest signing"

Cristiano Ronaldo made history on the pitch with Real Madrid, but before that there was a complicated dispute over his signing with Manchester United, who did not make things easy in the offices.

Ramon Calderon has given some details about how one of the most important signings in the history of football came about, and confessed that "it was not easy to convince" the Red Devils, but "the player made things easier".

"The results obtained, both on a personal and collective level, having brought Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid was a winning bet and an unquestionable success. But I had no merit, I did what any president would have done in my place. It was a unique opportunity that we could not pass up and, although it was not easy to convince United, the player's decision made things much easier," said the former Real president.

The signing was concluded for 94 million euros, which to Ramon Calderon, to this day, seems like a bargain: "United was excessive, but hey, it turned out to be the cheapest signing in our history. I also have excellent memories of Cannavaro and Van Nistelrooy, with whom I still maintain a relationship. Two examples as players and as people, who have helped us a lot, on the pitch and in the dressing room, to win two consecutive championships after three years without winning a title".

On the Portuguese's departure from Juventus, he said: "Without a doubt, Cristiano's departure didn't help them. CR7 is a player who gives a lot to the team he plays for, not only because of the goals he scores, but also because of his competitive spirit that he passes on to his team-mates".

12 years after he left Old Trafford for the Spanish capital, the Portuguese star signed for Manchester United and is now back as the leader of the English team, which is going through an irregular moment at a sporting level.
