Cristiano Ronaldo has addressed his millions of followers on Twitter on Friday afternoon to talk about the coronavirus. In it, he shows his more human side and shows his concern over what is happening across the world.
"The world is going through a very difficult moment which demands the utmost care and attention from all of us. I speak to you today not as a football player, but as a son, father, a human being concerned with the latest developments that is affecting the whole world," the Portuguese began his message.
He urged all those to follow the instructions of health authorities and said that he was completely in favour of football leagues such as a Serie A being suspended. "It is important that we follow the advice of WHO (World Health Organisation) and the governing bodies on how we handle this current situation. Protecting human life must come above any other interests," he continued.
He also sent words of encouragement to those affected by the coronavirus including his Juventus teammate Daniele Rugani who tested positive for the disease last Wednesday. "I would like to send my thoughts to everyone who has lost someone close to them, my solidarity to those who are fighting the virus, like my teammate Daniele Rugani, and my continued support to the amazing health professionals putting their own lives at risk to help save others," the Juventus footballer concluded.
The Portuguese striker is currently on the Portuguese island of Madeira with his family after returning there to be with his mother after she suffered a stroke. Although he was planning to go back to Italy, the Serie A season was then suspended so he decided to stay in his homeland.
Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the most famous footballers on the planet, has used his fame to send an important and powerful message to all those suffering at this very difficult time.
