The first matchday in the Bundesliga after the COVID-19 pandemic made something clear. Home advantage, so important sometimes, has become less important due to the lack of fans in the stands.

There is nothing like supporters cheering your team on when you are down, However, it will be several months before that happens again in European football. And on the first matchday, the fans' absence was noted.

Bundesliga gave world football hope. Although it is early to tell whether there has been any problem with regards to testing positive for COVID-19, the truth is that watching football from the major leagues has aroused fans' interest.

However, on the first weekend in the Bundesliga after the resumption, there was a difference. Home advantage has been lost as a result of games being played behind closed doors.

Only Borussia Dortmund were able to win at home. Lucien Favre's men managed to beat Schalke 4-0 at Signal Iduna Park.

There were five away wins. Wolfsburg at Augsburg, Hertha Berlin against Hoffenheim, Gladbach beat Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich won in East Berlin versus Union and Bayer Leverkusen thrashed Werder Bremen.

Fortuna Dusseldorf v Paderborn, Leipzig v Freiburg and Cologne v Mainz ended in draws. Just one home win in nine games.

In Bundesliga 2, the opposite happened. There were five home wins, three draws and no away win.
