"Coutinho is an incredible player. At Liverpool we never wanted to let him go... Barça forced us financially," recalled Jurgen Klopp.
At the time, Coutinho was playing for Klopp at Liverpool. Then came Barcelona knocking on their doors, and with the Brazilian wishing to go and an important economic incentive, the Reds had no choice but to let him go.
But Coutinho did not finish adapting to Barça as expected, with the Catalan club opting to loan him to Bayern Munich this summer.
Klopp, a former Borussia Dortmund coach, admitted to having spoken to Coutinho at the time, recommending that he sign for the former rival.
"I thought Bayern was a good option for Coutinho when I first heard it. I told him personally that he and the team would fit in well," he revealed.
Klopp would have loved to have him back at Liverpool, but it wasn't possible. "It may sound strange, but we didn't have the money to sign him," he explained.
Now he will have to see Coutinho, a great footballer, at Bayern, who was his greatest enemy. "His signing is not so good for Borussia Dortmund. I hope they win a title again, because every year it's boring to watch Bayern win...", he concluded.
