Coutinho's signing for Barca was one of the most expensive. Including the fixed sum and variables, the total amount went up to 160 million euros.
The 'Mirror' gave more details of the agreement that Liverpool and Barca reached back in 2018. The ppaer reports that the Premier League side had turned down several offers previously, but finally gave in when they were offer 160 million euros. That was more than enough money to buy Alisson and Van Dijk that same summer.
But that did not go down at all well that Barcelona took one of their players. In fact, they made sure they would not do it again, at least for a few years.
The 'Mirror' reveals that Liverpool included a curious clause in their contract. Barca promised that, if they wanted any other player from Anfield, they would have to pay a bonus of 80 million pounds as well as the price of the signing.
That basically meant Liverpool had banned Barca from signing their players. However, this clause is about to expire. It apparently ends in 2021 this clause.
With regards to the final price for Coutinho, Barca still could have to pay Liverpool a fair amount. In fact, 'Mundo Deportivo' adds that Barca are looking to sell him so that he does not reach 100 games for Barca. If he makes 100 appearances, they would have to pay the Reds another 20 million euros, something which the Barca board are looking to avoid. He is only 10 games off that amount as he has made 90 appearances for the Catalans.
