Thibaut Courtois was in optimistic mood at the press conference for his side's upcoming clash with Ajax. When asked about what makes an effective team, Courtois emphasised the importance of collective responsibility. "It's important to defend and attack as a team, and with lots of discipline. Everybody knows what they need to do."
"When you are playing for Madrid you have to play for and win everything. We want to get to the final of the Copa del Rey, fight for La Liga. The same with the Champions League."
The goalkeeper also commented on VAR, which will make its Champions League debut this week. "I like VAR. In the World Cup we had a very good experience with it:"
"In Spain it works well, but its still needs to be made clearer. The fans don't understand it. But overall it makes football fairer, and that is good," he added.
But can Madrid win a fourth consecutive Champions League? Courtois was optimistic. "I think we can win it. We have a great team with lots of experience. We have to do it bit by bit because there are great teams. The first one step is Ajax."
