Costa strikes again as Chelsea win 11 in a row

Diego Costa scored the only goal of the game as Chelsea sealed a narrow victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, which takes them nine points ahead of Liverpool.

Chelsea have now managed to take a remarkable 33 points from a possible 33 thanks to Costa's first half goal, but will have to make do without the Spain international on Boxing Day, as he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season and will therefore serve a one-match suspension.

An even first 45 minutes saw Chelsea have more of the possession, but Palace had the better of the chances. Puncheon came the closest to scoring for the home side with a free-kick that flew just over the crossbar.

Just five minutes before half-time, Diego Costa headed past Hennessey from a cross from Cesar Azpilicueta on the right.

Crystal Palace came out fighting in the second half, with Yohan Cabaye testing Thibault Courtois with a half-volley just after the break, but Chelsea also created a number of chances of their own.

N'Golo Kante forced Hennessey into a good save down to his right before Marcos Alonso rattled the crossbar with a sweetly struck free-kick.

It wasn't a fluid, flowing performance from Conte's men, but once again Chelsea showed grit and determination to win on a difficult afternoon.

As for Palace, Pardew's men need to find results over performances as they find themselves just three points above the bottom three, with all of the other teams around them yet to play this weekend.
