It was a tight game. Spain were dominating the possession but they could not break through an extremely well-drilled Iran defence. Chances came and went, but it was beginning to look dire for the Spaniards.
15 minutes into the second half and the breakthrough finally came, but it did not bode well for Spain that it took them so long to get the goal against a theoretically weaker team.
What was clear, was the presence that Costa can offer to this team - he is not your typical Spanish player. It's much more substance over style, but in both games so far he has got the results.
He got the ball on the edge of the box, having found a gap in between the two centre backs, and while trying to turn he lost possession of the ball. Luckily for him, it rebounded off the defender's challenge and into the back of the net. It Rezaeian who had made the challenge, but his attempt to rob the ball took an unfortunate turn.
It leaves Costa on three goals for the tournament, one behind Cristiano Ronaldo.
