Betis-Seville will be the first match to be played in the return leg of the competition. According to 'El Partidazo de COPE', the Seville derby will open the return of football to Spain on Friday 12th June.
This is what Javier Tebas, who was looking for a key match to mark the return of the First Division, has reportedly decided. In this way, the best match of the day will be the first to be played.
The president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, has not yet made the date official, not even to the clubs. It will be next May 28 when he will communicate the whole First and Second Division calendar to the teams.
June 12 was the date set by the employers for the return to competition. La Liga chose this date due to the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Spanish territory.
It was Thebes himself who put the date of June 12 on the table. "What I'm asking for is to comply with the health regulations in order to get to the start with as many infected minors as possible. We are going to be very much on top of the players' control," the La Liga president went on to say.
Also Jaume Roures, sole administrator of Mediapro, dropped the date. "LaLiga could come back between June 12 and 19," said the president who holds the television rights.
This way, there would only be three weeks left for the ball to roll again in the Spanish fields. And it will do so with a different Seville derby, the first without an audience in the stands.
For the rest of the weekend, still without date or time, there would be the matches Real Madrid-Eibar, Leganés-Valladolid, Valencia-Levante, Mallorca-Barcelona, Celta-Villarreal, Espanyol-Alavés, Real Sociedad-Osasuna, Athletic-Atlético and Granada-Getafe.
If it resumes on June 12, LaLiga will be the second major competition to play matches again. Following the cancellation of Ligue 1, the Bundesliga was played last weekend without incident.
