Contract renewals of Ansu Fati and Pedri are priorities at the Camp Nou

Pedri Gonzalez is the player with the most matches played this season, while Ansu Fati looks set to burst onto the scene in the next few years at Barcelona. It is for this reason that, according to 'Mundo Deportivo', the club's directive have both names high up on their agenda as the renewal of their contracts are a priority.

The situation is the same in both cases. Their current deals end in June 2022 - in other words, less than a year away - and both could extend their stay for two more years. There is no problem at all with the midfielder, but the situation of his teammate Ansu Fati is more treacherous given a discrepancy between his agent Jorge Mendes and the club.

The player's representative believes that, as his client signed when he was a minor, such a clause cannot be enforced. Barcelona, on the other hand, believe that it can be. Thus starts a new tug-of-war in negotiations which will have to take place in the next few months to ensure the continuity of one of Ronald Koeman's most promising young stars, who has almost recovered from his injury picked up last season.

This distance in the opinions of both parties doesn't exist in the case of Pedri, who will continue to flourish as an inevitable consequence of his step into the elite. Initially found as a promising youngster playing his football for Las Palmas, he has developed off the back of his own work into one of the most vital components of both Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
