In comments to 'TeleBilbao', Javier Clemente wanted to offer his opinion on the reception Bilbao will give the Spain national team at Euro 2020.
"I would like them to be applauded and supported. It's important for Bilbao that the Spanish national team plays at San Mames because football is not politics. The Bilbao crowd must defend the team who is going to play at San Mames," Clemente commented.
"For me there is no controversy in Spain coming to play at San Mames. It is historically the number one stadium and Basque football as been the number one. A World Cup was already played here with France and England," he added on Spain's expected visit.
On the Basque Country (Euskadi), Clemente revealed: "The players are keen to play for the Basque Country against a strong opponent."
"Spain are going to play at San Mames. They could play in Bilbao during an international break and and facing us. It would be a good test for San Mames and for the Athletic Bilbao fans to see Spain before the Euros. It would be a nice idea. For the Spain team, coming here before the tournament would be good," Clemente concluded.
