This was a game that Chelsea dominated for the majority, but another controversial VAR decision saw Watford get back in it late on and then the game was well and truly on!
The game started with a very early goal from the man himself, Tammy Abraham. A sublime pass from Jorginho, who didn't even look up and he knew where Abraham was, was received by Abraham, who got past the defenders and beat the keeper, to put his team in the lead early on.
Ben Foster almost singlehandedly kept his team in the game in the first half, after shot after shot kept coming at him, but he made some excellent saves on what was his 400th league appearance! Watford really struggled to come to light in the game and couldn't make any of the chances that they had count.
Watford's captain Cathcart also had to be subbed off in the 19th minute, as he sustained an injury. He was replaced by Adrian Mariappa.
The referee blew his whistle to signal half time and Chelsea were on course for a seventh consecutive win of the season after Tammy Abraham slotted home for the Blues! Watford responded well in the first half and really gave Chelsea a game. It was all still to play for!
Chelsea's goal came in the 55th minute. Abraham got the almighty assist, as Willian crossed the ball in for him, Abraham was on the right-hand side in the box and just passed to Pulisic in the middle, who slotted it in the back of the net! Chelsea doubled their lead and it looked almost impossible for Watford to salvage this!
But all the controversy happened in the 78th minute! Deulofeu had the ball in the box, but went down a little belatedly after a challenge by Jorginho and it was VAR checked. Chelsea were not happy after the penalty was awarded, after a lot of deliberation!
This changed the picture dramatically! Deulofeu took the penalty and confidently put it in the back of the net. A lively last ten minutes were to be had as Watford went back in the game!!
After a nerve-wracking final ten minutes for Chelsea, but 5 minutes of stoppage time, Chelsea go home with the win! Kepa made a win-preserving save in the last seconds to deny Watford from getting something out of the game! Watford will not be happy as they have not managed to win a game this Premier League season. Final score: Watford 1-2 Chelsea!
