UEFA suspended this Friday next week's Champions League and Europa League matches. The organisation are now looking for solutions to conclude the tournament this season.
'Sport' say that UEFA are now working on several scenarios. The most radical one would be to hold the semi-finals and final in the same week, a so called 'Final Four'. This is the model used in the Portuguese League Cup and in EuroLeague Basketball.
That would reduce the amount of weeks UEFA would need by two because instead of having the semi-finals over two legs plus the final in another week, both semis and the final would be in the same week. This is already used by UEFA in the Nations League.
Another of the options UEFA are considering is to play the quarter-finals and semis over one leg. That would also cut the amount of time needed.
This Tuesday UEFA are meeting to take the necessary decisions to try and reduce the effects of coronavirus on European football. Those competitions are the Champions League, Europa League and Euro 2020.
Precisely the European tournament could be postponed for a year because of the coronavirus. The congested calendar means alternatives have to be looked for, which could see the Euros moved to 2021.
