For captain Jordan Henderson, the European elite competition has been a lifelong dream, but he is insistent that his personal aspirations will not hamper Liverpool's chances in the tournament.
Speaking at the launch of Liverpool's home kit for next season, he said: ''I think you dream about those things when you are a kid really. Of course I have, as many other players have, but one step at a time.''
He added: ''Roma are a fantastic team and it will be a tough test for us so we will have to just wait and see. We certainly won't underestimate them. They beat Barcelona 3-0 and they are a top team. It will be a difficult game both home and away.''
Henderson believes that it will also be a question of mental strength, he said: ''It will be a tough test but it is a challenge for us to go in there being confident with the way we have been playing, especially in the last round. Having beaten City away we then put in the performance we did against Bournemouth [and that] shows the mentality of the players so we need to continue that, stay together as a group and focus on what is important.''
The midfielder reiterated: ''Our focus is on playing football and doing everything we can to win games, whether that is in the Premier League or the Champions League.''
