Levante goalkeeper Maria Valenzuela will take a while to forget about her side's match against Celtic. In the Spanish side's fairytale return to the Women's Champions League, the Scots scored one of the craziest goals in recent memory.
Not for its beauty, nor for it being a work of art. We're talking about a strike that doesn't have an explanation, nor does it make any sense. In the 63rd minute, Caitlin Hayes hit a long ball from her own half, several metres back from the halfway line in a free-kick that looked absolutely harmless.
But the ball ended up reaching the opponent's box, where Valenzuela had the bad fortune of miscalculating its flight, getting a touch but unable to divert the ball anywhere but between the posts. It was a goal which pulled one back for Celtic but which Levante went on to win 2-1, thanks to goals from Toletti and Alba Redondo.
