Edinson Cavani is a free agent this summer. He will end his contract with Manchester United on 30th June and he will not be renewing. He will leave the club after three seasons at Old Trafford, playing in 59 matches and scoring 19 goals. Now, the 35 year old Uruguayan is wanting a new challenge. He is not considering retirement, and neither does he want to slow down by moving to a lesser league.
He has recently been playing for his national team, for whom he has appeared 133 times and scored 58 goals. The striker now wants to try his luck with Spanish football. It is the only big league, along with the Bundesliga, in which he has not yet had the opportunity to play.
'Mundo Deportivo' reports that there is no other option in Cavani's mind about his future. The Uruguayan "only" wants to play in Spain, were the words of his representatives to the cited source.
If there is one team from La Liga that have been most strongly linked with the ex PSG player in recent years, it is Atletico Madrid. He has always seemed a great addition to the squad in Simeone's eyes, and the possibility of bringing him to the Wanda Metropolitano without having to pay a transfer fee makes the move especially tempting this summer.
