Carragher calls Pedri "player of World Cup so far" before calling it "a joke"

That Pedri Gonzalez is a fundamental player for Spain is evident, it hardly needs argumentation, but that does not mwan all football fans enjoy him playing. This includes fans and ex-footballers. In the case of Jamie Carragher, his opinion is in his Twitter account, where he wrote a comment just before the match between Spain and Costa Rica got underway. 

"Pedri is the player of the tournament up to now," he said. You have to bear in mind that happened when there are still some favourites like Brazil still to play. Although it is true that Argentina and Germany, as well as France, had already played their first match. As a consequence, the former England and Liverpool man does not see any other star ahead of the Barcelona midfielder.

The 'Sky Sports' pundit gave his opinion after just 15 minutes of the contest, which led to quite a few responses from followers who advised him to maybe wait until the game was over. Even he himself reacted after newspapers like the 'Daily Mail' highlighted his analysis in one of his stories. 

"It was a joke," Carragher responded using a GIF from the film 'Madagascar' in which one of the famous penguins pointing at the phrase appears. It is curious that he did a U-turn because it is true that Pedri Gonzalez shone in the opening exchanges of Spain's clash with Costa Rica. At the end of the game, his teammate Gavi won the Player of the Match award and the pair were key to the 7-0 scoreline.
