Cardiff: Harry Arter could make his first appearance for the 'Bluebirds' after being ineligible for last week's defeat to parent club Bournemouth. Danish striker Kenneth Zohore faces a late fitness test on a groin problem and may be forced to settle for a place on the bench, whilst Aaron Gunnarsson missed the game with a knee problem. Josh Murphy could start as Neil Warnock looks to add creativity to his side.
Newcastle: Javier Manquillo is expected to come in for DeAndre Yedlin at right-back after the American injured a knee in the defeat to Tottenham last week. Salomon Rondon could come in for Joselu up front.
Cardiff boss Neil Warnock on Newcastle:
"The one person Newcastle can't afford to lose is Rafa. They can get away with losing any player, but his commitment to Newcastle has been fantastic.
"He's in his last year (of his contract with Newcastle) now, so it'll be interesting to see how that develops because I'm sure worldwide he will be targeted."
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez:
"Everybody is spending big money on players, but will they all work out? We will see.
"It will be easier for some of our players as they have been in the Premier League for a year, but now other squads are stronger. Is our starting eleven better than before? I hope so, but we'll see."
