Sergio Busquets is one of the few players who has been constant at Barcelona through all the triumphs that have occurred at the Nou Camp, including Barcelona's last 3 finals of the Champions League.
He was a constant fixture under Guardiola, Luis Enrique and now Ernesto Valverde, and was speaking with the English media speaking before the tie between Manchester United and Barcelona in the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League.
The midfielder would like to play the final against his old boss, assuming Barça can negotiate past Manchester United and the winner of Liverpool v Porto in the Semi-Finals, "I'd be happy with that right now. All clubs want to do well in the Champions League. It's the most prestigious trophy and it's even more important for us because we haven't won it in so many years."
Busquets remembers the great football that was played under Pep Guardiola, especially in the final against Manchester United in 2011. "I don't like comparisons, but the best time we've had has been with Pep. But football doesn't stay the same, so you can't compare it to what we did or what we'll do in the future. That final was the pinnacle of everything we've achieved."
"It was the best performance of Pep's era. It was the pinnacle of everything we had achieved. That match was the perfect demonstration because the idea of how we wanted to play and the superiority on the pitch was clear," the midfielder recalled.
Busquets also spoke of the struggles that Barcelona have faced in trying to find replacements for Andres Inesta and Xavi. "Of course I miss Xavi and Iniesta. They are players that you only see once in your life and I spent many years with them. We could understand each other just by looking at each other. It would be very difficult for another center of the field like this to emerge from La Masia".
The Catalan midfielder also spoke of Messi, "We're very lucky to train with Leo every day. I've spent the last eleven years with him and he's unique," he said, whilst asking the team to be focused against a United side that has changed a lot without Mourinho. "They are better with Solskjaer. They don't mind giving up the ball because they sometimes know the opponent is technically superior. As we saw against PSG, they take advantage of counterattacks and set pieces. If you make a mistake, they take advantage of it.
