Andreas Pereira has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United, the Premier League club have confirmed.
In an official statement published on their social media accounts, Manchester United states: "Manchester United is delighted to announce that Andreas Pereira has signed a new contract, which will keep him at the club until June 2023, with the option to extend for a further year."
At just 23, the Brazilian joined the Red Devil's academy in 2011 and has gone to make 35 official appearances for the team.
The official statment also includes the player's thoughts on the contract extension, where he reiterates his wish to work on the necessary rebuilding of the team: "I have spent so long in Manchester that I now regard the city and the club as my home and I’m extremely happy to continue my career here. The manager has shown great faith in me and I can’t wait to get this campaign started under him.
"We know that we all have to work hard and that started on day one of pre-season. I will be doing everything I can to help us perform the way we need to, this season and beyond. I also want to thank my family for the trust they have in me and God for the opportunity he has given me.”
Regarding his player, Solskjaer has highlighted how Pereira is a product of the club's academy, a move which has been praised as the right tactic, as opposed to the signing of huge stars and equivalent salaries in recent years: "Andreas is another player brought through our Academy that understands what it means to play for Manchester United. He came from another country but quickly understood the values of playing for this club and doesn’t take it for granted."
