Bartomeu is no more. The under-fire Barcelona chief has resigned after a board meeting on Tuesday 27th October. Barcelona confirmed the news later on Tuesday.
The Catalan giants called a meeting after the statement from the Catalan government which said that "there are no legal or sanitary impediments" to holding the vote of no confidence.
Bartomeu had been heavily criticised for his role in the possible departure of Messi in the summer. The Argentine said by burofax that he intended to leave the club, and spoke publically against him on many occasions. Gerard Piqué was another of the players known not to have a good relationship with the ex-Barca chief.
Barcelona will thus hold elections to see who the new president will be.
The Spanish side confirmed the news later on Tuesday.
