Brazil have controversial penalty taken away by VAR!

Brazil could have taken the lead against Mexico after the referee gave a controversial penalty for a foul on Douglas Luiz. Esquivel made contact with Douglas Luiz, but the Brazilian went down very easily. The VAR stepped in and the referee overturned his call.

Some fans and media outlets praised the VAR after it intervened to take away a Brazil penalty which could have changed the course of the game.

Brazil were pressing and Douglas Luiz received the ball in space. He had the advantage and Esquivel made contact with him as he came across, but the Brazilian went down easily looking for the spot kick.

Mexico protested the referee's decision of a penalty and the VAR called the referee over to have another look at the controversial penalty he had awarded.

Finally, the penalty was taken away and the Brazilians were far from happy. It seemed the right decision though.
