Bombshell in the transfer market from the Bundesliga. Bayern Munich's established midfielder Leon Goretzka has rejected the club's latest offer to renew his contract. This is according to 'Bild', who also highlight that the player has handed in a transfer request to his agent.
His representative didn't wait long to move him between the clubs that are currently interested. 'Sport1' indicates that Real Madrid and Barcelona have entered the list of potential suitors. The clubs have two ways of securing his signing - either this summer as a paid transfer, or wait a year until his contract runs out and try and land him on a free.
The German is one of the world's best midfielders. At 26 years old, he still has plenty of his career ahead of him. His physical presence is a defining feature, however he has also improved the technical aspect of his game over the years. He is more than capable of an amazing goal or a pin-point pass, as he has demonstrated on more than one occasion for club and country.
The situation from Bayern's point of view is the most uncomfortable. The club's directive, should they not manage to convince him to renew his contract, will come up against the difficult question of letting him go on a free next year. Their only other alternative is try and sell him as soon as possible to at least get some funds for his departure.
