When asked what Bolt's best attribute was, the former Leeds United striker surprisingly told the 'Daily Mail', "Er... pace".
Bolt scored his first two professional goals in a pre-season friendly against Macarthur South West United, with many tipping the Jamaican sprinter to land a full-time contract with the club.
"Usain's had some stick," McCormack added.
"People are saying he can't hack it and won't make it but they should be applauding him for trying.
"He doesn't need the money, he could have retired on a yacht somewhere or be holed up in one of his homes around the world relaxing but instead he's putting his reputation on the line to try something different.
"I'd love to become a professional snooker player at 35 but it's not going to happen, yet Usain has a real chance of realising his dream here", he added.
Ross McCormack is currently on loan with the Mariners from Championship club Aston Villa.
"I've found him to be a real top guy. When I arrived, he came over, said welcome and if I needed anything just to ask.
"First impression is he is an absolute specimen of a human being. Huge, 6ft 5in tall and his shoulders seem about three metres wide. He eats like a horse but he can burn it off.
"A few of the lads have tried to test themselves running against him but once he stretches his legs and hits his stride, you're like, 'Jesus, that's fast'.
"His transformation just since I've been here, is massive," McCormack stressed.
"He needed a different type of fitness. He's used to being explosive and running in straight lines. He's had to get used to stopping and checking and building his stamina.
"If he pulls it all together he can be some threat. He can bump guys off easily with his strength, he's got aerial presence and then there's the fear factor of his pace. Defenders won't want to allow him to turn or run behind them because they know they won't catch him.
"The great thing is Usain's so humble. You forget you are with a global icon. He stays behind to work after training and asks for advice yet, when he talks, it's a bit like John Terry at Aston Villa last season, everyone in the dressing room wants to listen.
"We were in training camp the other week and everyone told a life story. Usain's were surreal, the cities he's been to, the things he's done, but not for print!"
