The Spanish FA's Delegate Commision (RFEF) decided how they would distribute European spots if La Liga gets cancelled. Barca, Real Madrid, Sevilla and Real Sociedad would be in the Champions League, Getafe, Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao would make the Europa League.
But this measure has not gone down well with everyone. In fact, there are three teams who are worst affected: Atletico, Getafe and Valencia. Valencia are even out of European competitions.
'Marca' says that Valencia are absolutely furious. Valencia are right now in seventh place in the table.
But the Delegate Commission have decided to favour teams in the Copa del Rey over teams in the league. As no one will have won it and Real Sociedad are in the Champions League, the other place would be for the other finalist, Athletic Bilbao. That is why Valencia miss out. However, if the final were to be played and Real Sociedad won it, the place would not be transferred to runners-up Athletic.
The decision has not gone down well with Getafe either. They are level on points with Real Sociedad, but in fifth place on goals scored.
However, at the end of the season, if the points are the same, head to head is used and Getafe won at Real Sociedad earlier in the season. In addition, Getafe have still got to play four of the bottom six a second time (all bar Mallorca and Leganes), while Sociedad have faced all the bottom six twice except Celta Vigo.
Lastly, Atletico Madrid. They are in sixth and in a Europa League spot, but they have yet to be eliminated from this season's Champions League.
'Los Rojiblancos' are going to lose out on millions and millions of euros. They have won 77 million euros this year. And that does not include the extras prizes for making the next round or even winning it.
As 'AS' says, in the last Europa League which Atletico Madrid played, the competition which they won, Atletico earned just 16.1 million euros. It is estimated that distribution of prize money will be greater next term, but it is not comparable with the money they will get from the Champions League.
Atletico will be knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter-final despite not being eliminated from this year's tournament.
Valencia, Getafe and Atletico are praying for the competition to resume and they are very unhappy with the proposals.
