Let's take a look back at the players that really stood out on matchday 22 of La Liga.

Goalkeeper: 'Pichu' Cuéllar

The Leganes keeper was the hero of the derby with Getafe, producing two top drawer saves to rescue a deserved point for the 'Pepineros' in the Coliseum.

Defender: Aritz Elustondo

The Real Sociedad defender celebrated his brand-new contract extension by scoring the fourth goal in the 5-0 thumping of Deportivo, showing both his defensive rigour and his attacking qualities.

Defender: Gerard Piqué

Barcelona's centre-back was the main protagonist in the Catalan derby, making headlines before, during, and after the game. After receiving insults from Espanyol fans, Piqué 'silenced' Cornella when he scored a late equaliser.

Defender: Yeray Álvarez

The big news of the weekend was the return of the Basque defender who had been absent for eight months with a testicular tumour. Álvarez was back at his best on World Cancer Day, showing formidable strength.

Defender: Arbilla

The thrashing that Sevilla suffered at the hands of Eibar was signed off by Arbilla, whose masterful free-kick beat the wall and the outstretched arm of Sergio Rico who could only get fingertips on the shot that rounded of a great win.

Midfielder: Illarramendi

The Basque midfielder lead Real Sociedad to victory over Deportivo, controlling the tie with his dominance in the centre of the park. Illarramendi provided balance for Sociedad and scored a brace that would all but determine Cristobal's sacking.

Midfielder: Orellana

The versatile Chilean turned Sevilla coach Montella's world upside down, undoing his debutant-packed team at the seems. Orellana showed his talent and experience, scoring two of the five goals that lead Eibar to victory.

Midfielder: Correa

The Argentine was once again Simeone's angel, giving Atlético Madrid another three points thanks to his wonder goal against Valencia. Correa proved to be the difference in the Wanda Metropolitano.

Forward: Gerard Moreno

The Espanyol forward light up a crowd that, in the end, Piqué would silence. Gerard Moreno gave life to Espanyol in the derby, capitalizing on Sergio García's pinpoint cross.

Forward: Stuani

The Uruguayan continued his form in the Estadi Montilivi, scoring a brace to sink Athletic Bilbao. Cristhian Stuani has now reached 12 goals with Girona, equalling his best goal tally in a season.

Forward: Loren Morón

The homegrown Betis forward had the debut that every footaller dreams of, grabbing the two decisive goals in his side's victory over Villarreal. 50,000 spectators got behind Loren and celebrated what could be the birth of a legend in the the Estadio Benito Villamarín.
