Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva vowed on Tuesday that Portugal will go to Euro 2024 in Germany to "fight for the title" and spoke about the "hunger to win" of the team coached by Spain's Roberto Martinez.
Portugal face Sweden in Guimaraes on Thursday in their first Euro 2024 warm-up match without stars Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo, although they will join the squad ahead of the Slovenia encounter.
Silva, who is one of the most experienced members of a squad that includes several newcomers such as Jota Silva and Francisco Conceicao, praised the "energy" and "ambition" the newcomers bring to the squad at a press conference on Tuesday.
"All the players coming in play for big clubs and are hungry to win, otherwise they wouldn't be called up," he said. "It's a younger generation, which is good, with a lot of energy and a lot of ambition to prepare for the European Championship in the best possible way. To try to fight for the title, which is what we want".
"I end up feeling a bit old when I see how hard they work, how hard they train. That's what we need (laughs)."
