Ben Chilwell is determined to seize the chance to make England's left back spot his own after his impressive first start in Croatia.
The 21-year-old won his second cap for his country in Croatia, and he insists that he is here to stay after being promoted from England's U21s.
"Of course it's nice (that Southgate did not call anyone else up) because hopefully I can get an opportunity to play again," Chilwell told the 'Daily Mail'.
"It's the gaffer's decision. When I get my opportunity, it's about taking it and playing the best I can for the team.
"Everyone is so competitive here. Whatever you do, whether it's a race in the warm-up, or a small-sided game at the end, everything everyone does is to win.
"You can't come into this squad and just try to ease your way into training and get by.
"You have to stamp your mark or you won't be accepted into the squad."
It is expected that Chilwell will win his third cap for England in Monday's UEFA Nations League fixture against Spain in Seville.
