Former German football legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge gave his opinion on the future of Jude Bellingham. Far from praising the midfielder's current form, the former Germany striker criticised the Englishman for some of the characteristics of his game and considered that he is not yet fit to join Real Madrid, one of the clubs interested in him.
"He attacks, presses in front all by himself. Even though there were only a few minutes left to play. Instead of walling up at the back and taking the lead over time, he wanted to attack even more up front. Things like that make me scratch my head. You have to use your brain more," the former coach began.
And in the same vein, he spoke about the midfielder's future: "He's a great player who will definitely go his own way. Apparently they are talking about Real Madrid. At Dortmund he still has a contract until 2025 and they want to extend his contract until 2026 and offer him a huge pay rise."
"If I were his adviser, I would advise him: 'Do that and then you can think about leaving the club a year later'.... Such a young player has to think about it and he should also listen to the older players. He has to keep growing and preparing himself," said the former Bayern striker.
Finally, Rummenigge surprised everyone and admitted that Bellingham is not yet ready to become a key player at Real Madrid, considering that Luka Modric and Toni Kroos could remain at the club for another season, despite the disaster in Manchester.
"He's still a long way from the end of his development. He's far from ready to be a regular at Real Madrid," he concluded.
