Bayern prefer to let Alaba go for free than sell in January

The drama between Bayern Munich and David Alaba isn't ending any time soon and it seems that it will rumble on into next summer. A contract renewal seems more and more unlikely.
The board, led by Hasan Salihamidzic, are miles away from matching the deal that the player's representatives have tabled. It is months since negotiations first began and they are no closer for now.
However, the German club are still unwilling to sell one of their captains in January. According to 'Sport Bild', Bayern have decided to block any possible move away this winter for the Austrian defender.
They would rather see him leave for free in the summer. The Bavarian outfit don't think that the money they would receive in January would be sufficient compensation for Alava, leaving him to be a free agent.
Meanwhile, Europe's biggest clubs are watching closely. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester City have all expressed an interest in signing him in 2021.
