The 18-year-old made his England debut as he came off the bench against Croatia last Friday and it has now emerged that he was on the agendas of plenty of sides when he left Manchester City in the summer of 2017.
Sancho decided that his route to the first team would be blocked at the Etihad and decided that a move elsewhere would be the best option for his development.
Dortmund eventually won the race for his signature, bringing him in on transfer deadline day, with his impressive performances since having marked him out as one of the most exciting young prospects in English football.
However, things could seemingly have been very different for Sancho, with 'Sport BILD' reporting that Bayern Munich were also very close to doing a deal for the player, only for senior board officials to pull the plug on the deal late on.
"Munich did not intensify their efforts because the leadership of Bayern was not completely convinced by Sancho," the report read.
Sancho was part of the England U17 squad that won the World Cup last year, with his performances in training with the Three Lions this week leading to the likes of Harry Kane and Eric Dier tipping him for big things.
"He's great," Kane enthused. "Big congrats to him for his debut, I thought he came on and made an impact as well. He's been great in training and he has just got to keep working hard and playing games and I'm sure he will have a very bright future."
Dier echoed those sentiments, saying: "I think he was fantastic when he came on [against Croatia]. He was direct and confident and technically he's very gifted. Hopefully he can be a big part of England in the future if he keeps working hard.'
