Bayern wanted to try to pile the pressure onto Real Madrid ahead of the first leg of the European semi-final on Wednesday in Munich.
Chief executive officer of Bayern, Rummenigge noted that Real were the frontrunners heading into the clash: ''It's going to be difficult, they are the favourites across both legs.''
He cautioned: ''The important thing is that we win in Munich this time, because they beat us the last two times, with Guardiola and with Ancelotti.''
The former footballer also pointed out how the club had reached the semi-finals without huge financial backing, and without investing hundreds of millions of pounds.
He said: ''We can reach the semi-finals of the Champions League without Arab or Russian millionaires, we have a different philosophy than that of Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain".
