In summer 2019, Frenkie de Jong arrived at the Camp Nou from Ajax. The Dutch midfielder arrived in Spain as one of the highest valued players at that time.
In his first season as a Barca player, the Dutch international ended up scoring a couple of goals in the 42 competitive matches he has played for Barca. This season, he has already made 15 appearances and got an assist.
But this Wednesday, 'Mundo Deportivo' reports that De Jong could leave Barcelona in January, despite the fact his contract expires in June 2026.
According to the Catalans, his new club could lie in Munich. Bayern tried to get him back in 2018 and they could have another go. Interest from the Germans could sees Barca forced into selling him because of their poor financial situation.
Barcelona know that Bayern remain in contact with Ali Durson, De Jong's agent, to tell him that they are willing to negotiate the signing of the Dutch youngster. That is providing Barca are willing to sell him.
That said, the Germans are not willing to pay the 23 year old's 400 million euro buyout clause. The Bundesliga outfit are looking to play a similar amount to what Barca paid for De Jong. 75 million plus 11 in variables.
