The arrest of Josep Maria Bartomeu has shocked Barcelona. He was the club's president just a few months ago.
As part of the investigation called 'Barcagate', the former president was arrested and taken to Les Corts police station to give a statement together with Roman Gomez Ponti, Jaume Masferrer and Oscar Grau.
However, 'Sport' reports that Bartomeu and the others who have been arrested this Monday have decided not to give a statement on the advice of their lawyers.
The whole process has therefore been put on hold until Tuesday. Several media outlets also say that Bartomeu will spend the night in the police station. Masferrer is also expected to sleep there. So far, only Gomez Ponti (who has not been asked to talk to the court) has left the police station. Oscar Grau is expected to leave before the end of the night as well.
It is worth rembering that 'Barcagate' is an investigation on the previous Barca board getting I3 Ventures to open social media accounts to criticise current and former players to improve Bartomeu's public image. I3 Ventures were paid almost a million euros below the minimum required for the board to have to approve it.
