De Ligt will be of vital importance this evening in the Netherlands' second game of Euro qualifiers. It's the big one, against rivals Germany. The dutch fans will be keen to see how the Ajax centre defender can continue his relationship with Liverpool's Virgil Van Dijk, but there will be an extra viewer that could be very important for the future of Mathijs de Ligt.
According to 'Sport', Barcelona will be sending their former left back and current technical secretary, Eric Abidal to the Johan Cruyff arena, the stadium where the two teams will meet tonight. The role of Abidal is thought to be to follow de Ligt in a match that could well decide both sides futures in this competition, as well as the future of the teenage defender.
Marc Overmars, the former Dutch legend and current sporting director at Ajax will also be present. Abidal, will be there to attempt to advance talks with the dutchman as Barcelona become closer and closer to signing their second young Dutchman this year, after agreeing a deal in the summer for de Ligt's teammate at club and country - Frenkie de Jong.
Barca have not let de Ligt forget about them during the International break, they were present at the 4-0 destruction of Belarus earlier on in the week and they will be present again tonight. Of course, Abidal will also get a look at de Jong, a player who will cost Barca 75 million pounds when the deal goes through in July.
Barcelona are looking to sign de Ligt as quickly as possible as they believe he is the man to replace long standing Centre Half, Gerard Pique. His quality and his youth have led to this intense level of interest from Barcelona, as well as most of the other major European clubs, including Real Madrid, Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.
