FT: Barcelona 1-0 Real Valladolid - After a fairly dull opening 40 minutes, the game came to life when Gerard Pique was awarded a controversial penalty, which Lionel Messi converted. Both sides had chances in a high-octane second half, before Messi had the chance to score a second penalty ten minutes from the end. But this time the Argentine saw Jordi Masip save well, leaving the game open to a Valladolid equaliser. That was not forthcoming, however, and the hosts held on for a first win in four

The whole Barcelona team are missing their shooting boots today, as Coutinho sends a shot horrendously high and wide from the edge of the area.
  • 92'
Messi has a right to feel pretty angry with Luis Suarez today. Again the Argentine sets him up perfectly, and again Suarez can't find the net from six yards out.
  • 90'
    FOUR minutes added on.
  • 88'
Messi, determined to make amends, surges forward and sends a shot curling towards goal from the edge of the area. It flies just wide. Valladolid are still alive, just.
  • 85'
PENALTY SAVED! Messi hits it hard to Masip's left, but the Valladolid goalkeeper gets a strong hand to it and parries. It falls back to the Argentine, who heads towards goal, but Masip is there again to catch the ball. Can you believe it?
  • 84'
Philippe Coutinho does a couple of intricate one-twos with former Liverpool team-mate Luis Suarez before being sliced down by Kiko Olivas in the area. Penalty!
  • 80'
Michel's daisy-cutter from the dead ball is blocked only to Joaquin who skies an effort almost out of the stadium. Given, how high the Camp Nou stands are, that's quite an achievement.
  • 79'
    Now it's Valladolid's turn to attack - they have a free-kick 30 yard out...
  • 78'
Sergi Roberto, on a rare foray forward from right-back, swings his boot at a loose ball and sends a shot fizzing just wide of the post.

Valladolid's Toni Villa, who has only recently been substituted on, has to come off due to an inury he's been struggling with for a couple of minutes now. On comes Stiven Plaza.
  • 76'
Alena is replaced by Ivan Rakitic as Ernesto Valverde looks to take complete control of the game.
  • 75'
Despite trailing by one goal, Valladolid haven't come close to the Barcelona goal for a while now. It's the hosts who are looking more dangerous at the moment.
  • 73'
Messi whips in an inch-perfect cross for Luis Suarez, who inexplicably misses from six yards out. Was he trying to pass the ball across goal for someone else? Who knows. The Uruguayan holds his head in his hands.

  • 62'
The attendance in the Camp Nou evening is 67,435. Given how low their attendances have been this season, that's a decent turnout.
  • 59'
Boateng comes off for Luis Suarez. It's been another poor performance from Barcelona's new signing.
  • 55'
Boateng runs through on goal and tries to round Masip not once, not twice but three times. Eventually the Valladolid goalkeeper gets bored of his fake shots and pounces to claim the ball.

HT: Barcelona 1-0 Real Valladolid - A half lacking in, well, anything, came to life in the final few minutes thanks to the one and only Lionel Messi. He went close with a curling effort before tucking away a 43rd minute penalty after Michel had fouled Gerard Pique. Here's hoping for more action in the second half!

Boateng wants a penalty after being bundled over on the edge of the box as he tried to hold up play. Nothing given.
  • 18'
Messi, playing on the right-wing at the moment, cuts inside and feigns to shoot twice before laying the ball off to his left for Dembele. The Frenchman takes aim but sees his shot blocked. Closest to a chance we've had so far!

  • 14'
Can Boateng get a goal this evening? He looked rather out of place on his debut against Sevilla. Tonight he plays in the middle of Barcelona's attacking trident.
