Barcelona v Real Betis - Preview and possible lineups

We take a look ahead as Barcelona prepare to face Real Betis at the Camp Nou on Sunday.

Barcelona: Lionel Messi is in contention to return to the team for the first time since breaking his arm. Philippe Coutinho is absent with a hamstring issue. Umtiti and Vermaelen remain out.

Betis: Javi Garcia will miss out, but there are no fresh injury concerns for Betis.

Valverde: We understand that any player theoretically can play the game, but of course there is always a period where you need to be careful. We'll find out tomorrow if I decide he [Messi] can play 90 minutes or not. I think he's lost his fear of taking a fall and provoking further injury, that's out of his head. It does affect you mentally. You can't be thinking 'I can't do some strange gesture that causes me pain'. I think he can play, he's pretty assured, I think he'll be okay. The other day we also knew there was a risk but the fact they've been training with the squad I don't think there's a major risk [now].

Setien: It is he [Messi] who opens up games, who scores the most goals, who gives the most assists. He is a fundemental player to control, but Barcelona without Messi are stil a great Barcelona and you have seen how the other players have taken the opportunity to impress in his absence. The reality is not the same, but we can do things with the ball ball that could well allow us to have a relatively high possession in relation to the rest of the teams against Barcelona. We are going to try to play our football, take away the ball as much as we can and when not, defend very well.

Did you know?

Betis have not beaten Barcelona in the league since March 2008.

Score prediction: 4-2

Barcelona possible XI: Ter Stegen, Semedo, Lenglet, Pique, Alba, Rakitic, Busquets, Arthur, Dembele, Suarez, Malcom

Betis possible XI: Lopez, Mandi, Bartra, Sidnei, Guerrero, Firpo, Carvalho, Guardado, Canales, Lo Celso, Moron
