Messi was booked for wasting time as he tried to put his boot back on following a challenge from former Stoke and Blackburn midfielder Steven N'Zonzi.
However, Barcelona manager Luis Enrique said after the game that Messi's laces were broken and that he wasn't trying to waste time.
Messi currently has three yellow cards and two more would see him given a one-match ban. Coincidentally, Barcelona have two La Liga matches between now and their 'El Clasico' clash with Real Madrid on 3 December. Therefore, should Messi's yellow card be rescinded, he would only have to avoid a red card in order to be available for the clash with Real Madrid.
