Barcelona sign Braithwaite
It was an open secret that Barcelona were going to sign a number 9 to replace the injured Luis Suárez, and now Ousmane Dembélé. The Uruguayan is out until May, while the Frenchman is out for the rest of the season.
Barcelona finally decided to pay Braithwaite's 18 million euros release clause and were previously linked with a whole range of strikers including Ángel, Loren Morón, and Lucas Pérez.
28-year-old Braithwaite has played 27 matches for Leganés this season, scoring 8 goals. In total, he has played 48 games over two seasons for the Spanish outfit and has scored 13 goals. The Danish striker previously had spells in France with Toulouse and Bordeaux, in Denmark with Esbjerg and in England with Middlesbrough.
He has 39 caps for Denmark and was part of their World Cup 2018 run. Now a Barça player, his performances for the Catalans will be key in earning a post for this summer's Euros.
The Danish is making what is arguably the most important move of his career at 28 years of age, and will now be linked to Barcelona for the next four years. as the club statement reads: "The player will sign a contract with the Club for the rest of the season and four more until 30 June 2024 with the buy out clause set at 300 million euros."
