According to 'Sky Sports Italy' Barcelona have made an offer for the Chelsea midfielder, with a cash-plus-player offer.
The former Leicester City man, who won the PFA player of the season award in 2016-17 after he won his second consecutive Premier League title for the 'Blues', has been a consistent performer for club and country for the last couple of years.
Didier Deschamps has stuck by the midfielder throughtout his nation's World Cup campaign, with Kante forming a crucial partnership in midfield with Paul Pogba as they have reached their first World Cup final in 12 years.
With Barcelona losing a key man in the middle of the park when Paulinho decided to return to China earlier in the week, Ernesto Valverde is looking to improve the balance in his team and seemingly believes that Kante is the man to do that.
Should the deal go through, it will see attacking midfielder Ander Gomes go the other way, with that player finding it difficult to get minutes on the pitch last season after a much-anticipated move from Valencia in 2016.
Chelsea are currently without a manager after the dismissal of Antonio Conte on Friday, so it is likely that a deal would only be made once Maurizio Sarri has been named as the new man in charge at Stamford Bridge, which is expected to take place in the next dew days.
