Barcelona make final offer for de Ligt
Barcelona want de Ligt, and the Dutchman likes the idea of playing there. The obstacle to a potential deal seems to be financial, as Barça's first offer was not befitting of the impeccable Champions League season played by Ajax's captain.
De Ligt's stock rose and his agent, the ever controversial Mino Raiola, tried to take advantage of it. He wanted more money for his client as the competition for his services heated up.
The Spanish champions believe that the offer they have made to de Ligt should be enough to convince him to join, and are hoping that he follows the example set by former teammate Frenkie de Jong by choosing Barcelona despite receiving more lucrative financial offers from other clubs.
Barça are now unwilling to raise their offer for de Ligt any further. The young centre-back has various options on the table and the ball is now in his court to make the right decision, although the fierce competition for a starting spot at Barcelona could put him off a move there - as Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman warned his player.
