The 'Financial Fair Play' rules are making Barcelona's life difficult, so much so that they don't know how much room they'll have to play with for signings, and they may not even be able to. The club need to balance their books to comply with La Liga rules and that's what they're working on behind the scenes.
With this as the back-drop, the club have chosen to focus on renewing existing players. Two of them are already brewing at the Camp Nou, at least according to the Catalan press.
'Sport' are claiming that Busquets has decided to stay for another year at FC Barcelona. Nothing's confirmed, having said that, as he's waiting on a possible return for Messi and, of course, what happens with the 'Financial Fair Play'.
According to the source, the captain is one step closer to renewing. Barca are hoping for definitive answer at the start of May to be able to get going on planning for the 2023-24 season with or without him.
Busquets already has an offer on the table: a contract until 2024 with a somewhat lower salary than what he's currently on, but it would be on-par with what the MLS could offer him, the league which is most appealing to the midfielder. An offer from Saudi Arabia can't be ruled out either, even though he hasn't got anything concrete yet.
The other renewal that Barca are working on is Dembele. As for him, his current deal lasts another year, but according to 'Mundo Deportivo', the club are interested in extending it until 2026.
Barcelona are thought to have already got in touch with agent Moussa Sissoko to talk about a new contract. The meeting would take place between the 1st and the 14th May.
Dembele is happy at Barcelona and wants to remain a 'Cule'. Despite his release clause going from €100 million to €50 million in July, just as both parties agreed the last time he renewed, he's not thinking about packing his bags. In this case, according to the newspaper, negotiations could go on a bit longer, even until the end of the summer transfer window.
