Barcelona continue to look over their squad for the upcoming season and, as is the case every summer, Philippe Coutinho is one of those that worry them most. Ex-president Bartomeu splashed out on the Brazilian and, after not succeeding in Spain, he has come an ongoing problem for the club, especially with regards to his high wage bill.
The reality that has now struck those at Barca is that there is barely any interest for him after a season which he spent mostly on the injury list. According to 'AS', there's not even the remote chance of a loan deal at the moment, as Bayern did a few seasons back.
The option to relocate back in England would be his best option, even if Barcelona would fail to get much money for him. If he does go, the club are going to have to practically gift him away, which is all the more painful after he had signed from Liverpool for a club record fee reportedly worth 160 million euros.
The Brazilian played just 12 matches last season, as he was forced to have surgery twice in Brazil after the lack of success from the first intervention. A season that went so unnoticed that he didn't even have time to make Brazil's Copa America squad.
According to 'L'Esportiu', interest in the Brazilian is non-existent, with Barca coming to terms with the fact that they won't receive any big offers for Coutinho and that he will have to stay another year at the club. The more than 50 million euros remaining to pay off his transfer fee make it hard to imagine he'll be on his way out.
As a result, Koeman is considering starting afresh with a player who promised to revitalise the club on his arrival, but who fell out of favour when he started to become blighted by injuries. It's still unknown whether this increased faith in Coutinho was motivated by the club's limited financial resources, or for a genuine confidence in his ability. In a few weeks we'll know for sure.
