After being given his debut under Ronald Koeman's leadership, and playing in a total of 39 matches (32 as starter) in the 2020/21 season, Oscar Mingueza has now lost importance in the Barca squad. For the majority of the current season, he has been surplus to Xavi's requirements.
The daily paper 'Marca' has reported that the club have spoken to the centreback and told him that they would like him to look for another club this summer. As his contract is due to expire in 2023, the Barca board want to receive money for his transfer and avoid him leaving for free next year, as could happen with Ousmane Dembele.
The Spaniard's situation does differ to that of Dembele's, as the centreback hardly features in his manager's plan, unlike the Frenchman. Christensen's arrival at the club, the presence of Araujo, Eric Garcia, and the ever present Pique, leaves little to no room for Mingueza in the Barca squad.
The cited source also reports that Barca are looking to sell him for around ten million euros. Alternatively, the player's own plan would be to go out on loan and demonstrate to his parent club that he deserves a place in the team once again.
