Sergio Busquets has bid farewell to Barcelona after representing the club for 14 seasons, and the legend leaves the club with a huge hole in their heart and their midfield. Although reports suggest the club is looking internally for their 4th captain, 'Mundo Deportivo' reports they are looking to sign a new defensive pivot to replace the Spaniard.
This appears to be Xavi Hernandez's priority this summer and there are several names on the cards.
The first choice looks to be Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich. The outlet reports the 28 year old is the club's top choice in terms of quality, experience and adaptability. In his 8th season at the Bavarian club, he is reportedly unhappy since the departure of Nagelsmann, and is the main target of the Catalan coaching staff.
Martin Zubimendi is also a popular candidate to replace Busquets. There have been many rumours regarding his transfer and Xavi praised the Real Sociedad star in a press conference on Friday, saying he "is an extraordinary pivot, he understands the game very well, he wins duels".
'Mundo Deportivo' also reports that other options include Sofyan Amrabat (Fiorentina), Guido Rodriguez (Real Betis) and Wolves' star Ruben Neves. Regarding the latter, there had been much talk between the English and Catalan sides about trading the Portuguese international with Barca's Ansu Fati, who seems to have fallen out of favour at the club. The same outlet even reports there is a verbal agreement already between Barca president Laporta and the Premier League side regarding the trade.
