All big clubs will fight to sign Erling Haaland in summer 2022. The attacker is one of the best players at the moment and Dortmund now seem to accept that they will struggle to keep him.
Barcelona was one of the clubs interested in Haaland for the future. In fact, Barca president Joan Laporta was dreaming big about having him in the squad together with RB Leipzig's Dani Olmo and Man Utd's Paul Pogba.
But, after careful thought, Barca are now clear that they cannot afford his signing. Vice-president Rafa Yuste was clear about that in an extensive interview given to 'Mundo Deportivo'. He did not only talk about Haaland, he also referred to Koeman, Xavi and Messi's departure.
"I don't see the signing of Haaland now. The president and the CEO were saying that. The previous board were buying players without knowing whether they could pay them or not. That only made the debt keep on increasing," the board member explained.
Yuste admitted that they would have loved to have a player of his level, but they think it is not the moment to think about that. "Haaland is one of the best in the world. From now until next year we will see what the situation is and what signings we can get. We always want to get best," he analysed.
"Firstly, you have to lay the base on a house which we have found in ruins. Let's focus first on building it and then we'll see what we can do..."
So, it seems like, for now, the doors to the Camp Nou are closed for Haaland. Real Madrid, Man Utd and Liverpool, his other suitors, have got one less rival in the market.
