The renewal of the Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is still a topic of conversation. The 28 year-old German goalkeeper has a contract with Barcelona until June 2022 and he is a key member of the squad.
Since his arrival in 2014 from Borussia Monchengladbach, Ter Stegen has become more and more important between the sticks at Barca. Two years after signing, he became the number one keeper.
He has made 234 competitive appearances for Barca and conceded 213 goals. The renewal of the German keeper's contract is on the list of priorities for the Catalan side whose priority is to renew him when the current season ends.
'Mundo Deportivo' says on their front page this Saturday that there is optimism at the Camp Nou over Ter Stegen's future. They are fully convinced he will extend his contract until at least 2025.
In the last few hours, both parties have reportedly met again and taken a big step towards reaching an agrement. Apparently, according to the cited media outlet, Barcelona have offered the German a contract which will see his salary gradually rise. Ter Stegen has reportedly accepted this.
In other words, Ter Stegen will get the salary he wants on average over the course of the contract, but he will get a bit less in the first few years and a bit more after that. That is due to the difficult financial situation as a result of the coronavirus.
