Leon Bailey sensationally pulled out of Jamaica's clash with Bonaire, after his younger brother failed to also receive a call up to the national side.
It was understood that Bailey had made an agreement to play for Jamaica on the understanding that his brother would also receive a call up to the squad alongside him, yet after the country's football federation insisted that Bailey's sibling undergo a trial period first, Bailey decided to pull out of the squad.
Bailey spoke to Jamaican based newspaper 'The Gleaner' after the announcement that he would not play the upcoming fixture. He said: "Obviously, I came to Jamaica because of the international call-up. I did agree to come based on the agreement we had. But when I got here, it was a totally different scenario. They didn't keep their end (of the deal), therefore, I decided not to play this game."
Bailey continued to freely discuss the topic, stating: " I am here for one reason: to represent the country. But they didn't keep their end. Once they are willing to do that, I am ready to put on the national team jersey. By this November, if they are willing to go ahead with whatever we've asked of them, I'll be ready to represent my country."
Bailey's insistence on his brother's call up is based on the fact that he believes that only players who know him well, like his brother, can help him reach his true potential for the Jamaica national side. Bailey finished by explaining the situation, saying: "It (his brother's situation) is a big part of it. I need players who can understand me. You can't expect me to jump in a system and expect it to work. I need help. I am a winner, a phoenix, and I don't like losing, so I need people who I know are capable of making things happen."
If all goes to plan next time, Bailey (and his brother) will make a long awaited debut against Suriname on Novermber 17.
