Cesar Azpilicueta has been dropped from Barcelona's list. The Spanish player was one of the first targets of the Catalan club for the current transfer market, but the negotiations became complicated and have reached the point that there will be no operation at all.
Rumours about the defender's move to Barcelona have been constant, as Azpilicueta's own idea was to leave Chelsea to join the Barça project this season.
The player had the word of Chelsea's former owners and even Todd Boehly thought about keeping it and letting the full-back return to Spain. However, his mind changed, while Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel's was always against the transfer. In addition, the English club's high demands helped stall the deal.
Azpilicueta has a contract until 2023 and the insistence of the new board of the Blues, as well as that of his manager, has led him to make the decision, as confirmed by 'MD', to stay at Stamford Bridge.
The defender, in fact, will sign a new contract that will make him a Chelsea player for the next two seasons.
Azpilicueta wanted to close his future as soon as possible and, seeing that Barcelona and Chelsea could not reach an agreement, he opted to remain under the orders of Tuchel, who has already assured him that he will continue to be important.
