Who would have thought that when Cholo Simeone arrived at Atletico Madrid in 2011, he would still be at the club nine years later. He could even stay as long as 13.
'AS' reports that Atleti want to extend the Argentinian's contract which expires on 30th June 2022.
The plan is for the contract to be renewed for another two years even though we do not know the financial terms of it. Right now, Simeone gets 32 million euros gross per season and is the best paid in the world.
Simeone himself understands the club's difficult season in the midst of a pandemic and money will not be a problem in reaching an agreement.
In the coming days, more details will be revealed on the new contract. Both Gil Marin and Natalia Simeone, the coach's sister and agent, are getting closer to an agreement.
If Simeone pens the new deal, he will be at the club for 12 and a half years. That is very unlikely to happen again any time soon.
